Why am I interested in building AI text editor?

Jun 10, 2025

The startup and AI ecosystem today is at the heart of explosive growth and change. With an outpouring of innovative ideas and funding, new challenges are constantly emerging.

Just by looking at Product Hunt, you can see that many people have spent months investing time and money into developing new AI products.

Amidst all this, I decided to focus on the writing experience—specifically, building a text editor.

There are several reasons behind this decision.

In the past, I created a text editor that incorporated animations, which gave me relevant experience.

Among the many areas where AI has made significant progress, text and image generation stand out. While both fundamentally rely on learning relationships and making predictions, ChatGPT's massive success comes from predicting the next token and understanding context. With that in mind, I decided to fully leverage this strength.

Thirdly, even though the AI tool market is already a red ocean, I believe there's still value in building similar products—precisely because the red ocean signifies stable demand. If I can offer the best experience within this competitive space, I believe there's a chance to succeed. It's like opening a pizza place in a town full of them—there’s still room for the best one.

So, what am I trying to build?

In the end, a text editor is all about the writing experience. The area I’m aiming to differentiate in is moving beyond the prevalent chat-based interfaces and designing a new, better writing experience with AI specialized for writing.

Why isn’t the chat interface optimized for writing?

Chat interfaces are great for versatility—they can generate images, answer questions, and simulate conversation, all in one. However, because they’re designed for real-time interaction, they lack the tools necessary for writing: things like long-form composition, structure, and editing capabilities. As a result, they fall short of meeting the complex demands of writing.

It’s like trying to catch four rabbits at once. That’s why I’m focusing entirely on the writing experience. With this focus, I can design features and experiences that chat alone simply can’t deliver.

Even though many platforms already support writing and editor functions through chat-based systems, I’ve decided to trust my own creativity and abilities. I don’t have concrete proof it will work—but I’ll learn by doing.
